Frankie and his on-again, off-again girlfriend of nine years couldn’t remain peaceful on Jesus’ birthday, so at approximately 7 o’clock AM on Christmas morning, Clearwater police responded to 807 Woodlawn loop, apartment 107, in reference to a domestic battery.

Upon arrival, they spoke to the victim, who stated in a sworn written statement that Caldwell struck her on the back of her head with an angel ornament. She noted the fragile angel ornament shattered into fine pieces of glass that fell down the back of her dress. Officers could not see any marks on her head due to her hair but could observe glass particles that fell inside and outside the back of her dress.

Caldwell was Mirandized, and post-Miranda denied he attacked her. He stated that she started the argument and was the aggressor and that she was the one who struck him with the figurine on the left side of his head. Officers stated that Caldwell was bald and had no marks on his head. They said the victim’s version of the story was consistent with her account of events.

Caldwell was convicted of felony battery twice before this incident, in 1991 and 2016, and therefore the charge was enhanced to felony battery with two prior convictions. Caldwell was also arrested in 2017 after he was accused of elbowing his pregnant girlfriend in the mouth during an argument in their home.

Caldwell was transported to the Pinellas County Jail, where his bond was set at $7,500, and he still remains. At his first court appearance, he was ordered by a judge not to have any further contact with the victim.
