‘Voting for Trump’ Trends Online Following Guilty Verdict

Supporters of former President Donald Trump remained defiant following his felony conviction Thursday, causing the topic “Voting for Trump” to trend on social media. Despite the Biden campaign’s efforts to capitalize on Trump’s legal woes, voters are rejecting the so-called “sham trial” that played out in Manhattan this month, and reaffirming their commitment to taking the country back.

“Joe Biden and the Democrats don’t get to use a sham trial to decide an election,” said one user on the social media site X. “The only verdict that matters is at the ballot box on November 5. Vote Trump!”

“They just pissed off a new line of people! Still voting for Trump!” another commenter said regarding the verdict. “Karma is gonna be a bitch!”

Many other voters agreed. Within hours of the jury reading their verdict, nearly 200,000 posts were made on X containing the phrase “voting for Trump.”

“Trump is the people’s president. I’m still voting for Trump. This banana republic [win] in the battle won’t win the war for America. #verdict. It’s time for silent majority to rise again.” ~ Jessico Bowman (@JessicoBowman) via X

“The world is watching. WE THE PEOPLE STAND WITH DONALD TRUMP, AND WE WILL RETAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY,” said commenter Graham Allen.

The public reaction matches what several major pollsters have been predicting for weeks. A survey published Thursday by NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist National found that a guilty verdict will make no difference for two-thirds of voters nationwide. Among those who said that their vote would impacted by a guilty verdict, 15 percent of voters answered that they would, in fact, be more inclined to vote for Trump.

“The bad news is today the Biden leftists in New York made a mockery of our criminal justice system,” U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) wrote on X. “The good news is Americans have sent Trump over $50 million since this travesty, and his deranged enemies just elected Trump for President again!”

Trump currently holds a slight edge over Biden in national polling. Two polls released by Morning Consult and Emerson last week found Trump leading by 2 points among voters nationwide. According to RealClearPolitics, Trump holds a lead of less than one percentage point.

After the jury read their verdict Thursday, Trump held a brief press conference outside the Manhattan courtroom, where he ripped the trial as a “disgrace” and insisted that he was an “innocent man.”

“This is far from over,” Trump told the audience. “We’ll keep fighting. We’ll fight to the end, and we’ll win because our country has gone to hell.”

“A rigged trial by a conflicted judge who is corrupt.” Trump later wrote on Truth Social. “We will fight for our Constitution–this fight is long from over!”

Trump is due to be sentenced on July 11. Four days later, he is expected to be formally nominated as the Republican candidate for President during the national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
