Voters Say Biden ‘Too Old to Run Again’ – Polls Show Shrinking Re-Election Chances
As Biden’s age goes up, his approval numbers go down.
Two polls in the past week have indicated that the President may face impossible odds in his re-election campaign, with one survey reporting that his favorability rating had fallen below 40 percent. Americans on both sides of the aisle are overwhelmingly concerned with the President’s advanced age, with nearly 80 percent of voters saying that Biden is too old to govern effectively.
The two polls, published by the Wall Street Journal and the Associated Press, showed nearly identical findings.
“Voters overwhelmingly think President Biden is too old to run for re-election and give him low marks for handling the economy and other issues important to their vote,” the Wall Street Journal reported, describing their survey as a “stark warning” to the 80-year-old President.
Just 39 percent of voters reported having a favorable view of the President out of the 1,500 surveyed. In a separate question, just 42 percent of voters said they approve of how Biden is handling his office, compared to the 57 percent who said they disapprove.
Democratic pollster Michael Bocian, who surveyed Republican Tony Fabrizio, said, “Voters are looking for change, and neither of the leading candidates is the change they’re looking for.”
The Journal also spoke to Elizabeth Bankson, a North Carolina elementary school teacher and Biden 2020 voter. She told the outlet that she wished there were another option.
“It’s 100% because of his age. He’s done a great job. He’s good right now. But somebody at the age of 80 has a high risk of things going wrong physically and mentally,”

Biden campaign co-chair Chris Coons says Biden is dealing with concerns over his age "by continuing to show, at home and abroad, that he is a capable and effective president."

In the Wall Street Journal survey, 73 percent of voters felt Biden was “too old to seek a second term.” The findings were nearly identical to a poll published by the Associated Press at the end of August. The AP reached the same conclusion.
“Americans actually agree on something in this time of raw discord: Joe Biden is too old to be an effective president in a second term.”
According to the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 77 percent of voters reported serious misgivings over Biden’s age, saying he is “too old to be effective for four more years.” That figure included 69 percent of Democrat voters interviewed. A total of 1,165 voters were surveyed.

The Associated Press poll also included a “word association exercise.” Voters were asked to say the first word that came to mind at the mention of Biden’s name.
In the responses, 26 percent referred to Biden’s age, with an additional 15 percent using words like “slow” and “confused.”
“I see all the symptoms my grandpa had,” one voter told the outlet. “You can’t be ruling a country.”
Biden’s age has also become a frequent topic of conversation in the White House briefing room. Last week, London Daily Mail reporter Rob Crilly cited an excerpt from a new Biden biography by liberal journalist Franklin Foer.
“His advanced years were a hindrance, depriving him of the energy to cast a robust public presence or the ability to easily conjure a name.”
