[Video] West Hollywood’s New ‘Safety Ambassadors’ Stand and Watch Fistfight

The city of West Hollywood decided to join in the Defund the Police movement and cut funding for four Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies to patrol the city. The city government replaced them with their new, unarmed “safety ambassadors,” A new video shows how well the program is going.

The video inside the city shows a fistfight taking place mere feet away from security ambassadors, who take no action.

The fight occurred at the intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards, outside the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s West Hollywood station.

The footage shows a man in a white sedan stopped in a crosswalk. A second man kicks the driver’s side view mirror before the driver opens the door and exits the car.

The fight is on as the two men duke it out in the street, and the security ambassadors watch the battle from the sidewalk.

According to 100percentfedup.com, in January 2022, woke West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne – who was, at the time, a councilwoman – led a vote to cut funding for the sheriff’s department and instead hire unarmed “safety ambassadors.” Shyne praised this move as getting the best “bang for the buck” and preached about the need for the city to practice fiscal responsibility.

Shyne later pushed the city to spend $85,000 renovating its LGBT crosswalk to make it more “inclusive.”

When asked about the city’s crime rate, Mayor Shyne stated, “Priority for us is safety, and we are safer than we have been in the past.”

“Crime is going to happen,” she added. “It’s a sad state of the country right now, especially with the lack of gun control and guns rampant everywhere, but we prioritize safety, so our city is safe, and I want people to know that.”

The video went viral after conservative actor James Woods tweeted it out.

Ethan Reynolds, the person who recorded the video, stated,

“If the Block by Block Ambassadors are not empowered to mitigate situations like this, which do seem to occur often in West Hollywood, truly it does give us a false sense of security, and I think that’s extremely frustrating as a resident,” Reynolds said. “If it’s just a secondary step for providing true intervention, I just don’t see the point.”
