The Salem-based Satanic Temple held its tenth-anniversary ‘SatanCon’ Convention, billed as the largest Satanic gathering in history.
The event was held in Boston at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel to a sold-out crowd.

This year’s SatanCon theme is “Hexe Nacht in Boston,” which translates to “Witches’ Night.
The event’s opening ceremony kicked off Saturday with Satanists yelling “Hail Satan, “while a female member of the Satanic Temple ripped up a bible and another destroyed a “Thin Blue Line” flag, which is flown in support of law enforcement.
SatanCon dedicated this year’s festivities to Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, whom the group sued for refusing to allow them to give an opening prayer before city council meetings.
“This event is dedicated to Boston mayor Michelle Wu for her unconstitutional efforts to keep TST out of Boston’s public spaces,” the Satanic Temple said. “
SatanCon includes a renaming ceremony for first-time goers, and Saturday’s roster includes panels on “Deconstructing Your Religious Upbringing,” “Reclaiming the Trans Body,” and “Sins of the Flesh: Satanism and Self-Pleasure.”
The Satanic Temple claims it does not worship the Bible’s Satan as a deity, instead uses satanic imagery to “reject tyrannical authority” and promote the separation of church and state.
On Saturday, more than 100 Catholic protesters were protesting outside the venue and were later joined by members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front.

One protester carried a banner that read, “Satan has NO rights!” while another stated, “Don’t be deceived! Homosexuals, baby killers, idolaters, unbelieving, liars, drunkards, gossips, cowards, thieves, mockers, fornicators: Hellfire awaits.”
The Archdiocese of Boston previously released a letter asking Massachusetts Catholics “not to organize or encourage others to go to the event to protest.” However, people “are appropriately concerned by such an event taking place in Boston.”
SatanCon continues through Sunday afternoon.
