New Mexico Governor Michelle Grisham’s brazen attempt to undermine the Constitution is being met with bold resistance. After Grisham was hit with widespread, bipartisan condemnation for a public health order attacking open carry rights, gun owners across her state rallied and made clear they would not comply.
On Sunday afternoon, a crowd of visibly armed gun owners rallied in Albuquerque to wave the American flag and show open defiance of the public health order. Videos of the event were posted to X.
“One speaker at the armed rally in Albuquerque defying the gun carrying ban told the crowd that they need to go out and do this every day, or else it wouldn’t have an impact,” wrote Ford Fisher, a reporter at the rally.
While violation of the so-called “public health order” reportedly carries a $5,000 fine, Fisher reported that there was no police intervention, and no officers attempted to enforce the order.
“This will not stand! We will not comply!” one speaker shouted, resulting in applause from the crowd.

3) One apparent anti-gun protester was yelled at, but then invited by the speaker to say his piece on the stage.

“This is the most important gun rally yet!” one user commented on X. “Once again, armed individuals peacefully gather to show their support for the 2nd Amendment.”
“Good. Civil disobedience of bad laws is a must, and in this case, it wasn’t even a law,” said another reply.
One commenter thanked police for apparently refusing to fine the protesters,
“Thank you [law enforcement officers] for making a good choice. You all took an oath to defend the constitution she broke hers and deserves to be removed from office.”
“Looks like a bunch of patriots defending their constitutional right to carry to me,” said independent journalist Mindy Robinson.

Last Friday, Governor Grisham issued the order to temporarily suspend open carry rights in Bernalillo County for at least 30 days. She attributed the decision to a recent spate of shootings in her state, resulting in the deaths of three young children.
“The action plan includes a suspension of open and concealed carry laws in Bernalillo County, temporarily prohibiting the carrying of guns on public property with certain exceptions,” Grisham said.
“Exceptions include for licensed security guards and law enforcement officers. Citizens with permits to carry firearms are free to possess their weapons on private property (such as at a gun range or gun store), provided they transport the firearm in a locked box, use a trigger lock, or some other mechanism that renders the gun incapable of being fired,”
The order was immediately met with swift condemnation, including from Grisham’s own party. California Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu responded to the news,
“I support gun safety laws. However, this order from the Governor of New Mexico violates the U.S. Constitution. No state in the union can suspend the federal Constitution. There is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution,”
Gun control activist David Hogg agreed, also writing that there is “no such thing” as a public health exception to the Constitution.
