Deputies from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office were cleaning up after an earlier crash, and the video was captured on bodycam.

Georgia Car Jump

The video shows two other vehicles traveling down the highway on the same side. A tow truck is parked and waiting to load the car from the previous crash. For unknown reasons, the driver stayed in the left lane violating state law and not moving over.

The driver hits the ramp of the flatbed tow truck, strikes the vehicle cab with his front end, and launches over the truck sending debris through the air. The vehicle then rolled sideways in mid-air and landed on another car.

Deputies and EMS on the scene rushed over to the vehicle.

The car’s driver that hit the ramp, was hospitalized with serious injuries. It’s unclear if she will face any charges for driving next to the shoulder while emergency vehicles were stopped.

The Sheriff’s office says they have tried to talk with the woman to get her side of the story, but her injuries have kept her from speaking.

Deputies told Fox5 Atlanta that the accident is an excellent example of why the public should abide by Georgia’s Move Over Law, which says,

“motorists traveling in the lane adjacent to the shoulder must move over one lane when emergency and utility vehicles are stopped on the side of the highway and operating in an official capacity.”
