Twitter Execs Humiliated & Threatened with Arrest by House for ‘Interfering’ in 2020 Election

The House Oversight Committee met Wednesday for a full hearing on Twitter’s role in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story. Republicans grilled the witnesses on their involvement in the suppression of the scandal just weeks before the 2020 presidential election. The panel included three executives from Twitter, Inc.

“America witnessed a coordinated campaign by social media companies, mainstream news, and the intelligence community to suppress and de-legitimize the existence of Hunter Biden’s laptop and its contents,” committee Chairman James Comer said, opening the hearing.

Twitter was accused of running cover for the Joe Biden campaign when it censored a New York Post story revealing the corrupt business dealings of the then-candidate’s son. The three executives claimed in their subpoenaed testimony that they believed the Post’s story to be misinformation from hacked sources. The Post’s report was later authenticated independently by The Washington Post.

Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins said during the explosive hearing,

“The bottom line is that the FBI had the Biden Crime Family laptop for a year. They knew it was leaking. They knew it would hurt the Biden campaign. So the FBI used its relationship with Twitter to suppress criminal evidence from being revealed about Joe Biden one month before the 2020 election,”

Congressman Higgins continued,

“You, ladies and gentlemen interfered with the United States of America 2020 presidential election, Knowingly and willingly. That’s the bad news, it’s gonna get worse! Because this is the investigation part! Later comes the arrest part, your attorneys are familiar with that. Mr. Chairman I’d like to spend five hours with these ladies and gentlemen doing depositions surely yet to come.”

Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna jumped in, saying,

“It’s highly illegal. You were all engaged in this action. And I want you to know that you will all be held accountable.”

Democrats on the committee came to the defense of Twitter’s chief censors. Ranking member of the committee Jamie Raskin tried to deflect attention away from the witnesses,

“It’s even more important now that we have members who are actually threatening witnesses with arrest and prosecution for clearly imaginary offenses.”

Unfortunately for Raskin, the offenses were not “clearly imagined.” During the hearing, Twitter executives confessed to suppressing the New York Post’s story, first adding a warning label deprecating the article and later banning links to it altogether. Twitter also locked President Donald Trump’s Twitter account temporarily for sharing the story.

One of the witnesses, Anika Collier Navaroli, did try to justify her company’s actions, saying it was to prevent violence of the kind observed on January 6.

“I am here to tell you that doing nothing is not an option. If we continue to do nothing, violence is going to happen again.”

Navaroli is a former member of Twitter’s U.S. safety policy team.

“I think I think you guys got played,” Rep. Jim Jordan said. “I think you guys wanted to, wanted to take it deep down. We saw it, but the chairman put up where you said, ‘you know, everyone in the White House is a fascist.’ I think you guys wanted it to be taken down.”
