Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his candidacy for President of the United States on Wednesday evening.
The medium he chose to announce his candidacy was historic as it was the first major Presidential candidate to announce on Twitter spaces in an interview with Elon Musk and wealthy tech investor David Sacks.
While DeSantis was able to have a productive discussion later on about his platform and values to hundreds of thousands of people, the announcement got off to a rough start after a series of delays that lasted nearly a half hour due to technical difficulties.

Trump supporters were quick to have a laugh at DeSantis’ expense and attempt to make the narrative surrounding DeSantis’ announcement about the technical difficulties Musk, Sacks, and DeSantis had to endure for the first half hour.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also announced his candidacy on Twitter space, though it had less significant technical difficulties due to a smaller audience size.
Another user joked that former President and current Presidential candidate Donald Trump was responsible for DeSantis’ Twitter spaces Presidential announcement repeatedly crashing.

Even President Joe Biden took a potshot at DeSantis as he posted a link to ActBlue, a Democratic online fundraising giant, saying, “This link works” at 6:16 PM as DeSantis’ Twitter Space was still glitching out.

Trump also joined in on the fun and took the opportunity to plug his social media outlet, Truth Social while saying that his “red button” works better than DeSantis’.

Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr. took multiple shots at DeSantis, sharing a video of Trump bodyslamming him and calling his Twitter Spaces announcement a ‘#DeSaster’.
He also harkened back to an insult Trump used against another Florida Governor, former Governor, and 2016 Presidential candidate Jeb Bush.

Still, after initial issues, DeSantis went full steam ahead once the Space was re-hosted by David Sacks.
DeSantis laid out bold and aspirational policy proposals during the interview with Sacks, taking a hardline stance on immigration, one of the major planks of the America First policy platform that drew people to Trump in 2016.
He said that he would declare an immigration emergency on day one to get to work on finishing the border wall, using “overwhelming” resources against cartels, and clamping down on abuse of asylum laws.
DeSantis supporters, including prominent conservative opinion writer Pedro Gonzalez hit back at Trump and his supporters after the initial announcement debacle.
“Elon said during the Space that his account tends to overwhelm Twitter because of his following, which, I know, is bizarre to the average Truth Social fan,” Gonzalez said while also taking a shot at Trump’s low turnout at rallies in Iowa and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
