Trump Says DeSantis’s ‘High Heels’ Are The Kiss of Death
Governor Ron DeSantis is known for his Florida First legislation, solid pro-Israel stance, and now his ‘high heel’ shoes. The Daily Beast reports that former President Trump says DeSantis’s boots are the ‘kiss of death’ for winning the presidential primary. DeSantis’s height has long been debated, usually among Democrats, but now that he’s running for POTUS, it’s become a subject media outlets discuss daily. So are DeSantis’s signature cowboy boots just a fashion do, a fashion don’t, or are they a dealbreaker?
"I was going to vote for DeSantis because he has a track record of defeating Democrats and improving the lives of his constituents.
However after seeing this dead beat dad that works for Trump talk about his DeSantis boot lift fan fiction I am voting Trump." – Absolutely no one https://t.co/qjB23GioKS

According to wisevoter.com;
The average height in America is 5’9″ for men and 5’4″ for women. However, it may vary from state to state. For instance, Montana and Utah are the tallest states in America, with an average height of 5’7.7″, while Hawaii has the lowest average height of 5’6″.
However, Americans like their presidents to be tall. Height is equated with power, security, leadership, and sex appeal. According to Slate.com;
The average U.S. president is about two inches taller than the average U.S. man, who is 5’9”. Recent presidents have skewed even larger: Every president since Jimmy Carter (5’9.5”) has been 5’11.5” or taller. We haven’t elected a president smaller than the average man in nearly 130 years since short king William McKinley won his election.
Some believe DeSantis is purposely amplifying his height, a la Sylvester Stallone, who reportedly has been wearing lifts in his shoes for years. DeSantis wears cowboy boots, which traditionally have heels for horseback riding. The look of them is “all American,” which may be the real reason DeSantis sports the look, and although many don’t realize it, many people in Florida wear cowboy boots. Plenty of Boot Barn stores in the state sell every style and color of cowboy boots you can imagine.
Whoever told Ron DeSantis it was a good idea to wear high heels while campaigning is a legend. pic.twitter.com/Jw2ITe0jeP

The heel debate brings up some interesting ideas about gender and masculinity, which may be the reason for implying there’s something wrong with wearing them. The heel on a cowboy would be considered a high heel on any other type of shoe, and it would be viewed as something that women traditionally wear, but on a cowboy boot, it’s considered masculine. But let’s say DeSantis is wearing the boots to appear taller; is there anything wrong with that? Is it any different than wearing bronzer to appear tanner, younger, and more vital?
Women have been picked apart over appearance forever. In 2023, it’s unsurprising that men are now facing the same scrutiny, but when you size up the presidential candidates, how each measure up will have nothing to do with how tall they are. DeSantis’s boots may be fun to discuss, but they won’t win or lose the election.
