Presumptive GOP Presidential nominee Donald Trump is calling out Joe Biden after it was revealed this week that his administration authorized the use of “deadly force” in the summer 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid. Court files released Tuesday as part of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s classified documents probe included an “Operations Order” from the FBI, directing agents to use lethal force at the former President’s home “when necessary.”
Shortly after the report, Trump responded on Truth Social, writing that Biden is “mentally unfit” to hold office. “WOW! I just came out of the Biden Witch Hunt Trial in Manhattan, the ‘Icebox,’ and was shown Reports that Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ, in their Illegal and UnConstitutional Raid of Mar-a-Lago, AUTHORIZED THE FBI TO USE DEADLY (LETHAL) FORCE,” Trump said.

Following the former President’s reaction, however, a spokesman for the FBI reportedly doubled down. In a statement published by Fox News, the bureau claimed that agents were simply following “standard procedure” during their raid of the former President’s home. “The FBI followed standard protocol in this search as we do for all search warrants, which includes a standard policy statement limiting the use of deadly force,” the statement read. “No one ordered additional steps to be taken, and there was no departure from the norm in this matter.”
According to court documents released Tuesday, FBI agents “planned to bring ‘Standard Issue Weapons,’ ‘Ammo,’ ‘Handcuffs,’ and ‘medium and large sized bolt cutters,’” and were also “instructed to wear ‘unmarked polo or collared shirts’ and to keep ‘law enforcement equipment concealed.”
Trump also responded in a campaign email Tuesday, saying that the FBI “were authorized to shoot me!” He added, “You know they’re just itching to do the unthinkable … Joe Biden was locked & loaded, ready to take me out & put my family in danger.”
After the Washington Post published an article accusing Trump of promoting a “false” narrative with the email, campaign spokesman Karoline Leavitt blasted the publication for their “sickening attempt to run cover for Joe Biden.”
“The good news is, Americans don’t buy the pro-Democrat, Election Interfering pro-Biden propaganda the Washington Post is constantly selling,” Leavitt said in a statement.

Following the 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid, Trump was charged with 37 felony counts relating to the mishandling of classified documents, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and false statements. He was additionally charged with one count of “willful retention” and two counts of obstruction through a superseding indictment out of the investigation.
Trump pled not guilty to all charges and was initially expected to begin trial this week. Earlier this month, however, Judge Aileen Cannon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida postponed the trial indefinitely, and no new trial date has yet been confirmed.
