Trans Rachel Levine Has ‘No Regrets’ Waiting to Transition – ‘Can’t Imagine’ Life Without Kids

A 2019 interview with transgender health official Rachel Levine resurfaced this week, with Levine saying he is glad he did not transition when he was young because he “can’t imagine a life without my children.” The interview went viral after Levine issued a call at a health conference to normalize child hormone therapies. The HHS official has said that child hormone therapies are supported “at the highest levels” of the Biden administration, drawing condemnation from Republican lawmakers.

Levine, the Department of Health and Human Service’s assistant secretary, is at the forefront of the Biden administration’s efforts to make so-called “gender-affirming care” more accessible to children under the age of 18. Levine is the highest-ranking transgender official in U.S. history, having undergone nearly a decade of transgender procedures and therapies since 2011.

But while Levine pushes to make the irreversible and life-altering transgender medical procedures available to children, the HHS official says he has “no regrets” about waiting until later in life to make that decision.

“I have no regrets because if I had transitioned when I was young then I wouldn’t have my children. I can’t imagine a life without my children.”

In the same interview, Levine also stated that getting children access to hormone therapies was a matter of life and death and vowed to do “everything we can legally” to prevent states from banning it.

“Gender-affirming care is medical care. Gender-affirming care is mental health care. And literally, gender-affirming care is suicide prevention care.”

Despite the stunning admission by the now-65-year-old, Levine insists that it is “medically necessary” for many children to change their gender, even if it comes at the cost of their ability to have children. On a podcast hosted by the Connecticut Children’s Hospital this week, Levine reiterated that the Biden administration stood behind the effort to expand “gender-affirming care.”

“I can say that you, the children that you serve, the young people that you serve, their families, and you all have support at the highest levels of the federal government… President Biden supports you. I as the Assistant Secretary for Health will support you and I talk about this topic, everywhere I go, to get the word out.”

Levine also expressed optimism that giving children sex changes would not always “be as politically and socially such a minefield.”

“I am positive and optimistic and hopeful that the wheel will turn.”

The Biden administration’s increased push to transition children was met with intense pushback from lawmakers this week, who called Levine’s comments “reprehensible.”

Rep. Andy Harris, a physician and member of the House Doctors Caucus, warned on Fox News this week that the puberty blockers and surgeries endorsed by the Biden administration “can impact children’s bone growth, fertility, and risk of breast and prostate cancer.”

“Meanwhile, HHS has pressured providers to provide this care or else face discrimination lawsuits. We must protect our children.”

Harris also told Fox that it is “reprehensible for a government official—let alone the Assistant U.S. Secretary of HHS to promote the genital mutilation of minors as becoming a standard practice in the U.S.”
