Today is an exciting day for Floridians. This morning in Tallahassee was the swearing-in ceremony for Governor Ron DeSantis and Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez.

Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz swears in Gov. DeSantis, alongside Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis.

There were some touching moments, such as when Attorney General Ashley Moody’s father, federal district judge James S. Moody Jr., swore her in.

There were funny moments, too, when Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis was sworn in.

I’m just going to say it. Florida’s first family looked like America’s first family. Casey DeSantis looked every bit as iconic as First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis in a celadon green dress with a cape and beautiful white gloves. The children looked adorable and relaxed.

Florida’s Governor gave a rousing speech that was, dare I say, downright presidential. Some highlights from the Governor’s speech:

“We will protect children from those who seek to rob them of their innocence.”

This received a standing ovation, showing that Floridians care about parental rights.

The governor also stated that he does what he knows to be correct.

“Leaders do not follow; they lead.”

The statement resonated with absolutely everyone, and what is clearly the theme for this term, the direction for Florida, and possibly the United States, is:

“Freedom lives here.”
