This Easter, I’ll Be Hanging With My Peeps
Easter is the most sacred holiday on the Christian calendar, but many people enjoy bunnies, chicks, colored eggs, and candy during this time, symbolizing rebirth and life, and then there are Peeps!
Peeps are a sugary marshmallow confection that traditionally comes in the shape of chicks and bunnies in yellow, pink, and blue colors. And when you think nothing further can be done with Peeps, a new product peeps up. People can’t stop chirping for more.
Peeps have been around for generations. The Peep universe continues to expand with new products such as Peep cereal, flavors and cuddly Peep stuffed animals, Peeps-themed apparel and accessories, and even Peeps-flavored coffee creamer.

The history of Peeps dates back to the 1950s when the Just Born company, based in Pennsylvania, began producing the confection. In 1953, Just Born acquired the Rodda Candy Company and produced Peeps on a larger scale. The original Peeps were yellow chicks, but other shapes and colors were added over time.
In the 1960s, Peeps became famous as an Easter candy. The company began producing Peeps in pastel colors and packaging them in egg-shaped containers. Today, Peeps are also made for other holidays, such as Halloween and Christmas, and come in various flavors and shapes.
The Prairie Farms Dairy company released a limited edition line of Peeps-flavored milk in 2016, which came in three flavors: Marshmallow Milk, Chocolate Marshmallow Milk, and Easter Egg Nog. The milk was colored pink, yellow, or brown, depending on the flavor, and was marketed as a fun and festive way to enjoy the flavors of Peeps.
While the idea of drinking Peeps-flavored milk may seem unusual to some, it’s not the only product that has tried to capture the essence of Peeps. There have also been Peeps-flavored lip balms, cereal, and even beer.
Peeps have become cultural icons. They have been the subject of art exhibits, fashion designs, and even scientific experiments. Every year, the Peeps company holds a Peeps diorama contest, in which contestants create elaborate scenes using marshmallow candies.

The manufacturing process for Peeps involves combining sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, and other ingredients to create a marshmallow mixture that is then shaped into the iconic Peeps forms using molds. The Peeps are then dusted with a mix of sugar and colored food dye to give them their distinctive look.
Despite their enduring popularity, Peeps has faced some controversy over the years. In 2020, Just Born announced they would temporarily suspend Peeps’ production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This generated a social media outcry from fans of the candy, who started the hashtag #SaveThePeeps to express their support for the brand.
Peeps have become a beloved and enduring part of American candy culture, with their fluffy texture and bright colors evoking feelings of childhood nostalgia and holiday cheer. Peeps remain a beloved part of American candy culture, and their colorful, whimsical appearance continues to capture the hearts of children and adults alike.
