Texas Busses More Migrants to Kamala Harris’s House as Title 42 Ends

Texas sent another bus full of illegal immigrants to Vice President and ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris’ residence on Thursday morning as Title 42 expires.

The 30 men, women, and children arrived at the vice president’s home on Thursday morning and were received by SAMU First Response and Mutual Aid. According to NBS, this bus was the second to arrive at the Naval Observatory in under 24 hours, with the first bus carrying almost 40 people.

One NBC reporter tweeted out a video of the migrants, claiming that most of them are from Venezuela.

“This morning, a group of about 30 migrants – men, women and children – arrived outside the Vice President’s residence here in Washington DC on a bus sent from Texas. Many on the bus told me they were from Venezuela.”

D.C.’s temporary lodging program reached capacity a week earlier, according to the District’s Department of Human Services.

Councilmember Robert C. White Jr., who co-sponsored a bill to increase aid provided to migrants, acknowledged a growing tension between supporting migrants and homeless U.S. citizens. According to NBC, 249 people are staying in three motels arranged by the District. Migrants theoretically should be out of the motels within 30 days, but many are staying longer.

This is not the first time a border state has bussed migrants north. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis bussed migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in September. The strategy is meant to relieve pressure on border states’ overwhelmed systems and bring the consequences of policies back onto those that support them.

Title 42, a Trump-era policy that forced migrants seeking asylum to remain in Mexico instead of the United States while their immigration case makes it through the system, expires at midnight on Thursday. The rule was imposed as a public health order during COVID-19 as part of a concern for infection, but with the official end of the COVID-19 emergency, it goes as well.

According to Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, there is no alternative plan for the expected influx of migrants.

“The Biden administration had two years to prepare for this and did not do so. And our state is going to bear the brunt, and migrants will be in crisis as soon as next week. It will be a humanitarian crisis because we are not prepared.”

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) banged a similar drum in a statement on Thursday, and that more manpower does not fix the broken policies.

“In speaking with Arizona officials and local communities along the border, it’s evident that coordination from the federal government is lacking. While border communities have been assisting with humanitarian needs, they desperately need additional resources to manage the lifting of Title 42. The latest troop deployments by President Biden and militarization are not the answer.”
