Taking a Bite Out of Crime: Florida Man Bitten by K9 After Stolen Vehicle Chase
Florida Man Dale Shrewsbury, 35, of Belleview, decided to steal a car in Ocala around 0830 hours. The vehicle’s owner called Ocala Police and reported that while he was visiting a friend, he left his car parked out in front of the house with the keys in the ignition. While he was visiting, Shrewsbury stole the vehicle. About an hour after the theft, An Ocala Police officer with a recruit in the car spotted the vehicle in the 4900 block of East Silver Springs Blvd. and tried to pull the car over, but Shrewsbury made another bad decision and decided to speed off.
The pursuit was on, and now the Marion County Sheriff’s Office joined in. Shrewsbury led Law Enforcement on a 21-minute chase through Ocala neighborhoods driving through wooded areas, yards, fences, and anything else that got in the way. The chase was quite reckless as Shrewsbury ran vehicles off the road, and at one point, he even struck a Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) vehicle during the pursuit.

Finally, a Marion County K9 was able to perform a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver and pinned the vehicle up against a ditch.
Shrewsbury, making his third bad decision of the morning, decided to bail out of the vehicle and so began the foot pursuit. Unfortunately for Shrewsbury, K9 “Jet” was having none of it. Jet quickly closed in on Shrewsbury and latched on! The sound of Shrewsbury screaming out in pain can be heard on the body cam video as Jet latched onto his buttocks. Shrewsbury is also seen in the video trying to pull Jet off him with one hand while the other was being restrained by the K9 Officer.
