Vero Beach, Fla. — Today, Milo Thornton, candidate for Indian River County Sheriff, announced the endorsement of State Representative Robert Brackett. Since launching his campaign, Milo has also secured notable endorsements from well-respected veterans in the community, Lt. General Frank Libutti and Medal of Honor Recipient David Bellavia.
State Representative Robert Brackett was first elected to the Florida Legislature to represent House District 34 in 2022. In office, he has worked hard to keep citizens safe, support our law enforcement and first responders, and help maintain the excellent quality of life Indian River County residents enjoy. Before serving his community in Tallahassee, Rep. Brackett served as Mayor of Vero Beach. He also currently holds a position on the Indian River Charter High School Board of Directors.
“Milo Thornton is the experienced, tough-on-crime Sheriff we need to protect Indian River County,” said Representative Robert Brackett. “I’ve had the privilege of knowing Milo for many years and know that he has a heart for the community and keeping our streets and neighborhoods safe. His 25-plus-year career serving in various law enforcement capacities has given him unique insight into the inner workings of agency operations and the issues most important to the officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect us. I’m proud to offer my wholehearted endorsement and support to Milo in this race for Indian River County Sheriff and look forward to working closely with him to maintain the high quality of life we enjoy here.”

“I’m very grateful to have the endorsement of State Representative Robert Brackett in my race for Indian River County Sheriff,” said Milo Thornton. “In our state legislature, he’s worked hard to promote law-and-order policies and provide our law enforcement officers with the tools and resources they need to serve our community well and carry out their sworn duty. As Sheriff, I promise to be tough on crime and keep our homes and businesses safe. I will strive alongside Representative Brackett to make Indian River a better place to live, work, and play.”
Milo Thornton first began his 25-plus law enforcement career at the Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer before joining the Vero Beach Police Department, where he served as a patrol officer and field training officer. After three years with the agency, he left to join the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, where he has served for over 21 and a half years, essentially working in every position/division at the sheriff’s office, ascending the ranks to Deputy Chief. Milo’s wide range of experience has given him an in-depth knowledge of the office and its daily operations, from managing government funds to providing professional mentorship to dozens of patrol and corrections deputies. In addition to his law enforcement service, Milo holds positions on numerous boards in Indian River County, including a second appointment to the Indian River State College District Board of Trustees by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2021.
