The son of a former Democrat state representative from Minnesota was recently involved in a horrific car crash that killed five young Somali women from Minneapolis.
Local news outlet Star Tribune reported the names of the dead, most of whom were related.
“Community leaders identified the dead as Sabiriin Ali, 17, of Bloomington; Sahra Gesaade, 20, of Brooklyn Center; Salma Abdikadir, 20, of Saint Louis Park; Sagal Hersi, 19, of Minneapolis; and Siham Adam, 19, of Minneapolis.” ~The Star Tribune

Most of the fatalities in the crash were young adult students attending local community colleges – one being a recent high school graduate. The suspect hit and killed the driver going 90 miles per hour, running a red light, and t-boning the young group.
The suspect has been identified as Derrick John Thompson, son of former State Representative John Thompson. Representative Thompson was a radical left BLM and anti-policing activist expelled from the Democratic party after falsely claiming that a racist police officer had stopped him. The representative had been stopped for driving without a front license plate, which is illegal in Minnesota, before publicly accusing the officer and trying to get him fired.
After the claims were shown to be false, the representative was asked to resign and was eventually expelled after refusing.

The state representative’s son, Derrick, also has a rough traffic record. The Star Tribune reported that Johnson has a history of driving with revoked licenses, and the popular Twitter account “I Meme Therefore I Am” alleged that he had been involved in a hit-and-run three years prior.

The son was released from prison far before the end of a previous sentence relating to a hit and run. According to Meaww, Derrick was sentenced to eight years in jail after hitting a pedestrian and fleeing the scene, leaving a critically injured pedestrian to fend for themself. The incident occurred in 2020.
The community has rallied around the victims and railed against reckless driving, raising more than 175,000 dollars for the families affected by Thompson’s reckless and violent behavior.
