Republicans Respond to Third Trump Arrest – ‘This Indictment is Crap!’

Allies of Donald Trump are speaking out following the former President’s third criminal arraignment in less than five months, accusing the Biden administration of weaponizing the justice system to try and tilt the scales of the 2024 election. Trump officially plead not guilty on Thursday to four charges relating to the 2020 election–the second federal indictment stemming from the investigation of U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith.

While the Justice Department continues to pile on charges against Trump, Republicans nonetheless showed defiance this week, standing with the former President and calling out the Biden White House for its abuse of power.

“This is all an effort to try to distract us from the very real crimes committed by Hunter and Joe Biden,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), referring to the recent bombshell bribery allegations against the Bidens. Gaetz proposed calling in Smith for a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.

“If he ignores the subpoena, we should hold him in criminal contempt of the Congress so that he is the first prosecutor in American history to prosecute a case while himself under criminal contempt,” Gaetz suggested.

Fellow House Republican Mary Miller (R-IL) cited a 2014 statement from the then-Vice President in condemning his weaponization of the justice system.

“Today, Joe Biden’s DOJ did what Joe Biden used to condemn other countries for doing: arrest his political opposition to silence and intimidate them,” ~ Rep. Mary Miller

Other members of Congress, such as Tennessee Republican Diane Harshbarger, have issued calls for an impeachment inquiry to potentially remove Biden from office.

I call on Congress to launch a full investigation into the politicization of our government agencies, and for an immediate impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden, who is directly responsible for this despicable witch hunt.” ~ Rep. Diane Harshbarger

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) indicated last week that an impeachment inquiry was on the table for Republicans.

Some Republicans, however, have dismissed concerns about the Biden administration’s abuse of power, such as former Attorney General Bill Barr and former Vice President Mike Pence.

On Thursday, Fox News host Mark Levin weighed in, blasting the pair for their comments.

“This indictment, Mr. Barr, is crap! And the reason they didn’t bring insurrection and seditious conspiracy is because there was no insurrection and seditious conspiracy,” Levin said. “I want to say something to Mike Pence, who has turned out to be quite the weasel…

“They didn’t find – and I told you this months ago – not a syllable of evidence that Donald Trump was involved in overthrowing the government in an insurrection or anything else. As a matter of fact, he left office when he was supposed to leave office, that’s what he did. They went after him before he was elected, they went after him when he was elected, they went after him in four years of his presidency. They’re going after him now, and this is a disgrace to the whole country.”

Despite his arraignment, the former President appeared in good spirits Thursday, writing on his Truth Social Page,

“CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT I HAD TO FLY TO A FILTHY, DIRTY, FALLING APART, & VERY UNSAFE WASHINGTON, D.C., TODAY, & THAT I WAS THEN ARRESTED BY MY POLITICAL OPPONENT, WHO IS LOSING BADLY TO ME IN THE POLLS, CROOKED JOE BIDEN, IT WAS A VERY GOOD DAY!” ~ @realDonaldTrump via Truth Social
