Winter Haven police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Wednesday after officers walked in on Nathan Armstrong stabbing a woman in a Domestic incident.

According to a press release from the Winter Haven Police Department, Officers responded to a residence at 2316 Isle Royal Court SE at around 2:00 p.m. about a disturbance after a witness called Polk County 911 to report that 35-year-old Nathan Armstrong was stabbing a woman inside the home.

When Winter Haven officers arrived at the scene, they rushed into the house and found Armstrong stabbing the female victim repeatedly. The officer ordered Armstrong to stop and drop the knife, but he kept stabbing the woman.

Fearing for the victim’s life, the officer fired his service weapon, and a round struck Armstrong in the leg. Once Armstrong was secured, officers began rendering first aid to,Armstrong and his victim.

“Our officer saved this victim’s life,” Winter Haven Police Chief David Brannan said. “Had our officer not taken immediate action to stop Armstrong, the outcome for the victim could have been much worse.”

Both were taken to the local hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Officer also received praise from Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

“The officer did a magnificent job under the circumstances, and he was there by himself. He charged to the threat to save that lady’s life and saved her life,” said Sheriff Grady Judd with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Tenth Judicial Circuit Task Force, overseen by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, is handling the investigation into the use of force/officer-involved shooting.

Charges are pending, but we can assume that attempted murder might be one of them.
