Newly Elected DeSantis Backed School Boards Get to Work Shaking Up Florida’s Education System
Florida Republicans at the state and local levels won a resounding victory in the recent midterm elections, and they’re already using their political capital to shake up Florida’s education system.
Three superintendents have been fired by Florida school boards that were elected by parents who are fed up with critical race theory in schools and administrators caring more about organized interest groups like teacher’s unions than the welfare of students.

“Parents woke up in the last few years,” a newly elected school board member backed by the conservative Moms for Liberty advocacy group told The Post. “They were exposed to the garbage that has gone on behind closed doors for so many years. That’s finished.”
“Anyone surprised by this hasn’t been paying attention,” the school board member said. “COVID policies, porn in school libraries, nonstop ideology, on and on and on. Parents are being ignored and insulted. We’ve had it.”

On the same day that a Sarasota County school board was elected, they immediately grilled Superintendent Brennan Asplen on a lack of transparency, student masking policies, and student performance.
Asplen chose to resign voluntarily rather than be fired outright.
“I have a feeling I’m going to be fired after tonight because I just can’t hold this back,” Asplen told the board during the meeting.

Asplen claimed that the new school board was politicized and defended his record in his resignation. Many of the claims by Asplen were “not accurate,” according to new board chair Bridget Ziegler.
“I am very concerned,” she said. “I don’t know how respectfully we build a relationship where we are functioning together for the right reasons with mutual respect.”
State Representative Randy Fine, R-Fl. said that the shakeup in school districts resulted from them “spitting in parent’s faces.”
“We had a wave in school districts that spit in parents’ faces,” Said fine, who has been an avid opponent of school mask mandates and critical race theory in school curriculum. “And now the people who did that are gone.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis played a pivotal role in reshaping school boards across the state of Florida.
He chose to endorse multiple school board candidates in pivotal races; many of them went on to win their races and are now in school districts such as Sarasota, where superintendents are now on the chopping block.
We need strong local school board members who are committed to advancing our agenda to put students first and protect parents’ rights.
I am proud to endorse 10 local school board candidates who will set our children up for success.https://t.co/6Jb5HaaUhI pic.twitter.com/UytFojOY2p
