New Political Ad Slams Crist for Opposing Transgender Sports Ban
A Florida-based political organization released a scathing advertisement directed against Democratic Gubernatorial nominee Charlie Crist less than a week before the midterm elections.
The Protect our Values Committee, which has released other negative mailers and ads against Florida Democrats, dropped an advertisement that ties Crist to transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.
“Lia Thomas called himself the Jackie Robinson of our time. He’s fighting to break down barriers, so men can play against girls in school sports. Charlie Crist agrees. Crist believes gender is a choice and that any boy can be a girl if they want to,” said the ad.

After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that bans male-to-female transgender people from competing in women’s sports, Crist lashed out against the Governor, saying that he was “picking on trans kids for political gain”

“This is despicable behavior by Governor DeSantis, picking on trans kids for political gain. RT this & let’s send a message to @GovRonDeSantis that every trans kid in Florida is welcome here and loved — and we’re going to fight for trans rights every day,” Crist said.

During the Florida Gubernatorial debate, DeSantis repeatedly pressed Crist to commit to a position on providing ‘gender-affirming care’ for minors, which includes hormone therapy and gender-reassignment surgery. Crist dithered and attempted to shift the focus of the conversation back to familiar issues such as abortion.

A poll released in late October found that 78.7 percent of voters believe underage minors should be required to wait until they are adults to legally use puberty blockers and undergo permanent sex-change procedures.
Despite the position being extremely unpopular, Crist has alluded to the fact that he would allow gender-affirming care for minors.
He said that if he was Governor, he would allow children to get “lifesaving, age-appropriate care.”
Crist said; “When I’m governor, medical standards will be based on science n professional consensus — not right-wing culture war politics. I’ll fire DeSantis’ QAnon Surgeon General and restore access to lifesaving, age-appropriate care.”#DemCastFL #ONEV1 https://t.co/5YCByGeVU6

The Protect our Values Committee has funded other negative advertisements against Crist, including a mailer that ties him to Biden’s student loan forgiveness program.
“I went into debt getting my Gender Studies degree,” the mailer says, next to a black-and-white photo of a white woman with three visible piercings, even though it only shows one ear. “Thanks to Charlie Crist, taxpayers are bailing me out.”
The mailer also attacks Crist for his views on transgender issues using imagery that is similar to their video advertisement.
DeSantis appears ready to cruise comfortably to re-election. According to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average, he is currently leading by 11.5 percent.
