New DeSantis Campaign Ad Highlights Navy Background

Governor Ron DeSantis’ re-election campaign just released a new ad reminding voters of his roots as a commissioned Navy officer.

The new ad is titled “Honor, Courage, Commitment”, named after the Navy’s core values. and will be run statewide by the Florida GOP. The ad features DeSantis’ former commanding officer Daniel Bean of Jacksonville.

The two first met in 2009 when DeSantis was on active duty, and since coming into office, DeSantis appointed Bean as a member of the Jacksonville Port Authority Board.

According to Bean, DeSantis “embodied the core values” of “honor, courage, and commitment.” Bean made the remarks on what appears to be a Navy ship, with flags flying behind him. He said DeSantis lived by those core values both on active duty and “every day as the Governor of our state.”

Bean continued to to praise DeSantis’ character, calling him “selfless.”

“As someone who’s served side by side with him, he is selfless. He will do what is in your best interest, not his best interest.”

This particular praise is topical as DeSantis has come under fire for his recent decision to fly 50 illegal migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in attempt to spark action on the border. Detractors have accused DeSantis of sacrificing the interests of the migrants and Florida taxpayers for his own political gain. All of which Bean’s commentary disputes.

Bean also referenced DeSantis’ more practical experience as a Navy officer as a military lawyer, or JAG, saying, “When you’re advising Seal Team 1, you’re making life and death decisions every day.”

The ad ends with Bean calling DeSantis a “true servant leader,” referencing his military past and gubernatorial present.
