Meghan McCain, Elon Musk, & More All Agree: Trump Indictment Helps, Not Hurts, His Re-Election Chances

1Twitter CEO Elon Musk, Commentator Meghan McCain, and more took to Twitter on Saturday to react to Trump’s prediction of his arrest on Tuesday and were in total agreement: an indictment will put him back in the White House.

Trump made the thunderous announcement in all caps on Truth Social, sending the political world into a frenzy, predicting his arrest and calling on his supporters to protest against the move.

“NOW ILLEGAL LEAKS FROM A CORRUPT AND HIGHLY POLITICAL MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE , WHICH HAS ALLOWED NEW RECORDS TO BE SET IN VIOLENT CRIME & WHOSE LEADER IS IS FUNDED BY GEORGE SOROS, INDICATE THAT, WITH NO CRIME BEING ABLE TO BE PROVEN, BASED ON AN OLD & FULLY DEBUNKED (BY NUMEROUS OTHER PROSECUTORS!) FAIRYTALE. THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!,”

The crime he’s being accused of is paying hush money to Stormy Daniels to keep their affair quiet. Trump has denied any such affair happened, but there’s a more significant problem, one Meghan McCain pointed out in an article for the Daily Mail.

“But I maintained an open mind and today believe that she did have an affair with Trump for which he paid her to keep her mouth shut. Yet here’s the thing – my hatred of Trump does not blind me to the reality that paying hush money is not a crime.”

Legal expert Alan Dershowitz wrote about the emptiness of the charge.

After spending months searching the criminal code for a law that Mr. Trump might be accused of violating, Mr. Bragg has apparently landed on a highly questionable campaign contribution provision that has never before been used in a comparable situation.

The apparent hollowness of the charge, combined with Trump constantly being targeted by establishment forces, with the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago home being the most recent example, has led many commentators to predict that an indictment will help Trump’s election chances through a vengeance-fueled backlash.

McCain agreed, writing the same thing.

“No, this case is not about justice. It is about getting Trump by any means necessary – and it will backfire…..Trump’s base voters believe – and not without reason – that an entrenched, unaccountable elite in Washington is out to get him. They’re justified in this belief, and frankly, I become more sympathetic everyday to that sentiment.”

Twitter CEO Elon Musk agreed with McCain’s read, riffing off a similar notion by Viva Frei.

Dilbert-creator Scott Adams Echoed the notion in a tweet of its own.

Others compared the move to those made under authoritarian regimes throughout history.

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh even floated that the indictment is intentionally designed to help Trump win the nomination, as Democrats may see him as a more beatable candidate, as they did in 2016.

Trump predicted the likely reaction to his potential indictment earlier this month while answering questions at CPAC, affirming that it wouldn’t prevent him from running.

“Oh, absolutely, I won’t even think about leaving. Probably, it’ll enhance my numbers, but it’s a very bad thing for America. It’s very bad for the country.”
