John R. Smith: A Turning Point for America: Pondering Trump’s Plans & Obstacles
We have front-row seats to perhaps one of the biggest stories in the 21st Century: Can Donald Trump turn a Deep State bureaucratic country back into a democratic Republic — one with “equal” voices, unbiased application of laws, prudent spending, and an America First attitude?
Author John Leffingwell asks: Where are we at as a country? The answer is one very deeply in debt, impacting both federal spending (the interest on that debt is one of the most significant “expenses” in our federal spending — one that buys us nothing) and the influence of the U.S. dollar as the world’s currency. America’s poverty level remains about where it was when LBJ implemented his “War on Poverty” programs in 1964 — which has cost the American Taxpayer an estimated $ 22+ trillion since then. We now also have the added burden of homelessness.
The Federal Register lists 441 government entities/agencies. A recent review indicated that 75 of them no longer exist. The Register now has over 90,000 pages and over 100,000 laws. Open the Books tells us that the number of federal government employees has grown to three million people. Federal government spending in the last four years has dramatically increased since 2000: The EPA’s spending jumped by 571%, the Dept. of Energy by 390%, the Dept. of State by 577.7% . . . get the idea? As with so many things today, this is unsustainable.
We know that both Social Security and Medicare will “run out of money” sometime in the early 2030s, resulting in something like a 20% reduction in S.S. benefits and Medicare “services.” And we know that the latest federal budget projects deficit spending for at least the next decade — well over $1T+ every year. If President Trump has the courage to take on this known problem, one with no easy answers but needed for those programs to survive, expect his enemies to attack in force. They will scream and emphasize the hardships but never the inevitability of collapse if nothing is done. This is a prime example of why Trump was elected and why he will be under constant attack.

But, whether it’s the debt/deficit, Social Security/Medicare, or reducing the number of Federal employees and Federal spending, we also know that the leftist “progs” will fight all efforts to attempt to correct these problems.
As evidenced by the forced departure of censored Congressman Al Green (D-TX) from Trump’s address to Congress, Democrats will fight tooth and nail against Trump’s efforts. Building the bureaucracy and spending federal taxpayer dollars is their lifeblood. They will attack facts and Common Sense at every step, leveraging their vast media propaganda network, aided by villainous foreign countries.
Do we need ESG, DEI, Critical Race Theory, and Project 1619’s attempt to alter history? Or Going Green? The U.S. already leads the world in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and spends trillions on Green Projects, including draconian mandates on EVs, charging stations, gas stoves, etc. All this is while the largest greenhouse gas emitters continue to make and use coal-fired energy plants to build solar panels and wind turbines for sale. Nothing about any of that is rational.
Our country is in trouble, and President Trump is doing his best to get us back on track and away from a deep bureaucratic morass of inefficient spending and ever-increasing debt. While he will not always be “right”, his overall direction and intent for this country is spot-on. Put on your earmuffs when you hear the braying from the Left.
