Vero Beach, Fla. — Today, Milo Thornton announced his Q1 fundraising numbers in the race for Indian River County Sheriff. In the first quarter of 2024, the campaign collected $28,930. To date, his campaign has raised $306,900, and when counted with the political committee, Friends of Milo Thornton, his total is over $375,000. The money raised is unprecedented in Indian River politics.
“I’m incredibly grateful for our community and their willingness to support this campaign,” said Milo Thornton. “Everywhere I go, both small and large donors are willing to invest in a strong, safe, and secure Indian River County, with high standards of ethics and professionalism. That is exactly what I’m campaigning for, and it is really resonating with the people of our county.”

Milo Thornton first began his 25-plus law enforcement career at the Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer before joining the Vero Beach Police Department, where he served as a patrol officer and field training officer. After three years with the agency, he left to join the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, where he has served for over 21 and a half years, essentially working in every position/division at the sheriff’s office ascending the ranks to Deputy Chief. Milo’s wide range of experience has given him an in-depth knowledge of the office and its daily operations, from managing government funds to providing professional mentorship to dozens of patrol and corrections deputies. In addition to his law enforcement service, Milo holds positions on numerous boards in Indian River County, including a second appointment to the Indian River State College District Board of Trustees by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2021.
The primary election is August 20.
