‘I’m not a Racist’-Black GOP Rep. Wesley Hunt Blasts Dems for Calling Border Security ‘Racist’

Congressman Wesley Hunt blasted house democrats on Wednesday for suggesting that the GOP is “racist” for wanting border security. Hunt, a black republican from Texas, rebuffed Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff for their comments and delivered a stunning takedown of the democrats’ false narrative.

“I’ve been black for a long time, sir, so I get it. And I’ve been a minority in this country for a very long time, but this is actually not about race. This is actually an issue of public safety.”

Ranking Member Jerry Nadler delivered the opening remarks for a Judiciary Committee hearing on the border crisis and the fentanyl epidemic. He characterized republicans as racists for their concerns.

“I wish this committee was starting off on a different note…The first hearing will showcase the racist tendencies of the extreme MAGA Republican wing of the party that seeks to close the border to refugees from places like Cuba and Venezuela.
It almost makes me miss their usual obsession with conspiracy theories and the FBI. I suspect this hearing is also an attempt to distract from the fact that Republicans have failed to pass any meaningful legislation in their first month in the majority.”

Adam Schiff piled on, saying that republicans were “intent on demonizing migrant families and asylum seekers.”

Congressman Hunt wasn’t in the mood for the democrats’ usual schtick.

“This is actually not about race, this is actually an issue of public safety and if I call this an invasion sir I’m not a racist, I can assure you I’m not a racist. What I can assure you is that I want to make sure that Fentanyl doesn’t indiscriminately kill any race, religion, color, or creed… Fentanyl doesn’t care about race. Fentanyl kills indiscriminately.”

A December report from the CDC concluded that an estimated 110,236 Americans died from fentanyl overdoses in 2022 alone. In the first nine months of FY 2022, over 5,000 pounds of fentanyl was intercepted by border patrol – enough to kill everyone in the United States.

‘Congressman Jerry Nadler Opposes to Saying Pledge of Allegiance, Gaetz Schools Him’

Hunt continued,

“This administration, a Democrat party, unfortunately uses race as a scapegoat for everything. And as somebody that does attack racist issues when they do occur we can’t be the boy who cried wolf and blame racism all the time. I am here to hold this administration accountable to understand that there are issues of race that need to be addressed and sir this ain’t one of them.
I get reaching across the aisle but this morning I can’t believe we had a one-hour debate over whether or not we should say the pledge of allegiance before we convene every day. One-hour…I implore you all to be careful using race because your son is no longer here and I’m sorry. There is a hundred thousand sons and daughters who are no longer here because of Fentanyl last year.”

Hunt was referencing an amendment proposed by Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz just before the hearing. Gaetz encouraged the committee to say the pledge of allegiance before beginning proceedings. It took an hour to convince the Democratic members to agree.

Customs and Border Protection has encountered over 4.5 million migrants at the southern border since Biden took office. Two hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred eighty-seven apprehensions were reported in December alone. Despite the millions of illegal immigrants pouring over the southern border, Joe Biden has insisted that there is no crisis.

“Let’s get down to brass tacks,” Hunt said. How can we fix some of these issues that’s happening at the border that’s killing people every single day.”
