Haley PAC Shells Out $3.5M Attacking DeSantis, $0 Against Trump
The pro-Nikki Haley super PAC’ Stand for America’ has burned through more than $3.5 million attacking Ron DeSantis over the past two months–but has not spent a single cent against Donald Trump, according to a new report.
On Monday, the New York Post published a spending breakdown for Stand for America, which, in addition to the millions spent against the Florida Governor, includes $28 million on “pro-Haley initiatives” and $25,000 targeting President Joe Biden. Despite former President Trump’s colossal lead in current Republican primary polling, the PAC has not tried to narrow that lead.
The total spent in negative ads against DeSantis included nearly $300,000 in October and was raised by a further $3.2 million in November.
In a statement to the newspaper, Stand for American spokesman Brittany Yanick did not mention Trump in their strategy but said their ad campaign was focused on countering DeSantis’ “lies.”
“Ron DeSantis’ lies and desperate mudslinging aren’t working; it’s backfiring and costing him support,” said Yanick. “We won’t allow DeSantis to spread lies about Nikki’s record when it comes to China or terrorism in the Middle East. We’re focused on ensuring voters understand Nikki Haley’s record and DeSantis’ latest attempts to rewrite history amid his sinking ship of a campaign.”

In the DeSantis camp, however, staff say that the millions spent in negative ads against the Florida Governor show his resilience as a candidate. A spokesman for the pro-DeSantis super PAC ‘Never Back Down’ reportedly told the New York Post that DeSantis “is the leader and fighter our country needs.”
“Gov. Ron DeSantis has endured more negative advertising against him than every other candidate, and is still the only one who can defeat Donald Trump … Never Back Down has amplified DeSantis’ successful, conservative track record, which stands in stark contrast to the establishment flip-flops of Nikki Haley, and his commitment to putting country over self, unlike Donald Trump.”
According to committee expenditure data compiled by Republican consultant Rob Pyers this week, nearly $27 million has been spent in negative ads against DeSantis this election cycle–more than any other candidate, including Biden and Trump. By comparison, $20.6 million has been spent attacking Biden, and $18.7 million attacking Trump.
“Nikki Haley and her donors are greedily wasting millions of dollars targeting Ron DeSantis in Iowa,” DeSantis deputy campaign manager David Polyansky said in a statement to The New York Post. “Because a DeSantis voter would go to Trump as their second choice, every negative ad she runs against DeSantis only helps advance Donald Trump’s candidacy rather than advances her own standing.”
“The truth is that every dollar Nikki Haley raises and spends hitting Ron DeSantis should be reported as an in-kind contribution to the Trump campaign,” Polyansky continued.
