Greg Gutfeld: People Tired of Seeing Human Sh*t on Their Front Door

Fox News funnyman Greg Gutfeld says people are tired of finding “human shit” on their front door. Gutfeld was reacting to a viral video of a homeless woman in San Francisco being sprayed down by a man with a garden hose. The man was later identified as an antique dealer, with the incident happening outside his business.

From the moment it was posted, the video drew intense outrage from viewers.
“This man is evil,” said one tweet. “Why was this man not arrested for assault?” asked another.

Gutfeld had a different perspective on the matter. “What do you think of that lady [sic] squirting the hose on the homeless lady?” cohost Geraldo Rivera asked.
Gutfeld replied,

“I think everybody is at the edge of their frustration. You can say, ‘My gosh, that’s heartless.’ Well, maybe that person gets up every day and sees human shit on his front door.”

While that does not appear to be the case in the video, Gutfeld is correct that San Francisco has a homelessness problem and, by extension, a poop problem.
San Francisco is one of the wealthiest cities in America, with a median income twice as high as the national average. It is also one of the nation’s most extreme examples of wealth inequality. Despite the city’s enormous wealth, around 7,500 people currently live on the streets. Such a massive homeless population means limited public resources—bathrooms included. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the city’s 311 line has received more than 230,000 complaints about human and animal waste over the past decade. Roughly 63 calls a day.

“I would support this—it’s what I have been talking about for a while—an autonomous zone for people who wish to be homeless,” Gutfeld said about the crisis. “This is where you can go and practice this experimental lifestyle. And if you are back in the city panhandling, we will take you back there. Or we will get you help. But you are going to go back to that place because that’s where it is legal.”
Several illegal “autonomous zones” cropped up during the 2020 George Floyd riots, boasting sizable homeless populations. The most famous example, Seattle’s Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP), lasted little more than three weeks before police cleared the area.

“It could be like the Road Warrior times five, but that’s what they want in the city. They cannot live on your street.”
