Gov. DeSantis Hits Love Boat Ice Cream for Cone After Signing Insurance Legislation
At 10:00 AM yesterday morning in Fort Myers Beach, Governor DeSantis signed new insurance legislation that passed both chambers in the legislature during this week’s special session.
After the signing, the governor celebrated with friends and supporters at Love Boat Ice Cream Shop in Fort Myers.
With property insurance described as a “hidden tax” on homeowners, the Florida House on Wednesday gave final approval to a plan aimed at stabilizing the state’s troubled insurance market.
The Republican-dominated House voted 84-33 along party lines to pass the bill (SB 2-A) on the final day of a special legislative session. The Senate approved the bill Tuesday, meaning it is ready to go to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

A bill titled SB 2A (HB 1A): Property Insurance just passed in both chambers of the Florida legislature along party lines.
In summary, the bill accomplishes the following:
It stabilizes a failing marketplace for insurance.
It gets rid of 1-way attorney fees.

It gets rid of the assignment of benefits.
It encourages settlements.
It helps homeowners by reducing insurance company claim time to 60 days.
It strengthens the insurance market, so many more companies offer insurance in Florida.
It gives the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (FLOIR) the ability to fine and discipline insurance companies for customer abuse or wrongdoing.
The bill now goes to Governor DeSantis for his signature
