Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz is raising alarm bells about the National Security Agency (NSA) spying on conservative Americans following a report that the agency is compiling a massive glossary of “woke” terminology for employees to use.
On Thursday, Gaetz said on his podcast ‘Firebrand’ that the NSA was “shifting” its focus to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and warned that the agency may expand its surveillance to target political opponents that it deems “extremist.”
“The NSA has apparently been up to no good, but not in the usual sense,” Gaetz said. “Instead of spying on Americans without warrants, it seems the NSA has now shifted its focus to, you guessed it, diversity, equity and inclusion.”
Referencing a Wednesday report by the Daily Wire exposing a 34-page glossary of woke terminology compiled by the NSA, Gaetz told his listeners, “So what the NSA is pushing is a load of insane, bigoted nonsense.”
According to the outlet, the intel agency’s glossary includes terms such as “white fragility,” “transmisogyny,” and “settler colonialism,” and blames “white Europeans” for discrimination. The leaked document describes itself as “a glossary of terms and language commonly used in dialogue regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice” and cites the work of Critical Race Theory authors Robin DiAngelo and Ibram X. Kendi.

“And these are just a few of the 327 social justice terms listed in their glossary to blame white Europeans for engaging in settler colonialism,” Gaetz said.
“Big Brother getting into [critical race theory] should concern us, and if we don’t nip it in the bud right now, we’re going to be paying for it,” Gaetz continued. “Imagine the NSA intercepting your text messages and flagging … any material deemed to support extremist beliefs, like there are only two genders, or I’m not sorry that my ancestors created Western civilization. Perhaps they’re already doing this.”
“What else would they be keeping a glossary like this for?”
The Daily Wire also noted that the glossary attacks the very founding of the United States in its definition of “settler colonialism.”
“Settler colonialism typically includes oppressive governance … and enforcement of codes of superiority,” before charging “examples include white European occupation of land in what is now the United States.”

On Wednesday, Florida Congressman and former Green Beret Mike Waltz reacted to the report, telling the Daily Wire that he was shocked and disturbed by the document. He also confirmed its authenticity.
“I just can’t overemphasize how shocking this is,” Waltz told the outlet. “I’m a member of the Intelligence Committee in the House, and it is an authentic document.”
“This isn’t some kind of diversity document, with terms like white fragility and definitions of whiteness and ‘ze’ and ‘zir’ in, say, the Small Business Administration,” he continued. “This is the NSA, the National Security Agency, one of the most powerful agencies in the world, that the world has ever seen.”
