Shelton Police arrested the pair for the burglary, but Princess, the hairless cat, has still not been recovered, police said Thursday.

According to Shelton Police Public Information Officer (PIO) Lt. Robert Kozlowsky, On January 22, 2023, a room at the Shelton Hilton Garden inn on old Stratford Road was burglarized. When police arrived, they discovered that the suspects made off with Princess, the victim’s Hairless Sphinx feline, and several other items in the room, including Gucci and Fendi bags, were taken from the room.

Police said there were no apparent signs of forced entry to the room. The stolen items were estimated to be worth $8,500, Kozlowsky said.

Princess’ owner, “Shyanne,” who asked that her last name not be used, is heartbroken. She told local 12 that she and Princess had never been separated for more than three days.

“She’s my little baby. She’s so attached.” Shyanne is from Florida and was staying at the hotel.

To make matters worse, her Princess was stolen on Sunday, her birthday. Shyanne was supposed to fly back to Florida on Monday after her birthday celebration. Now she remains in the area for word from the police.

Shyanne said she left the room for a little while to get her nails done for her birthday celebration. She said that when she returned, several things were missing from her room, including two designer bags, a pair of expensive shoes, and, most importantly, her beloved Princess.

“I don’t know if they just wanted her or, you know, wanted to sell her, breed h; I have no idea, I just want her home.” I don’t care about my stuff; I want my cat. They didn’t take her food, her litter; they didn’t take anything. They didn’t take her carrier. They didn’t take any of her clothes. It’s very heartbreaking.”

On Wednesday, Shelton Police said they arrested two people in connection with the theft. Zyair Lopez and Toni Douglas-Alves were each charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary. Shelton Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a news release Thursday.

Douglas-Alves and Lopez were each released on $10,000 bonds. Douglas-Alves is scheduled to appear in the state Superior Court in Derby on February 22, while Lopez is scheduled to appear on February 28, according to Kozlowsky.

“Police obtained and executed a search warrant during this investigation,” Kozlowsky continued. “Police seized items, but the cat was not located. Police are still trying to locate the cat.”

Hairless cats are commonly referred to as sphinxes; however, several different breeds may have no fur. They can sell for around $1,000 from a breeder.
