Florida Woman Batters Boyfriend with an Avocado to the Eye
Florida woman Karleen Biswanger, 39, of St. Petersburg, was arrested Sunday for throwing an avocado at her 68-year-old boyfriend, which struck him in the eye, at their home at the Viridian retirement community for seniors in St. Petersburg.

According to a St. Petersburg Police arrest affidavit, at around 7:45 p.m. on March 12, officers responded to a call about a domestic disturbance after a neighbor reported the alleged assault at a residence in the 500 block of 3rd Avenue South in St. Petersburg, the Viridian Apartment Community.

Upon arrival, Officers separated the two and found out what had happened. According to the victim, Biswanger “threw an avocado at the victim’s face causing injury to his right eye,” the police report read. According to the report, she also allegedly threw a “hanging rod” at the victim, striking him in the arm and causing injuries.
A neighbor witnessed a portion of the battery. Biswanger was read her Miranda rights and then denied striking her boyfriend with the piece of fruit, police wrote.

The incident happened in the Viridian Apartments Retirement Complex housing complex for residents aged 62 years and older.

Officers noted in the report that no firearms, weapons, or alcohol were involved in the incident.

Police established that the two were in a domestic relationship and described it in the affidavit.
“The defendant and the victim have been living together for roughly a year and have been engaging in consensual sexual intercourse.”
Biswanger has prior convictions for legal possession of Xanax, theft, DUI, obstructing police, probation violation, driving without a license, and driving without a license.

Biswanger was transported to the Pinellas County jail and charged with battering a victim aged 65 or older, a felony in Florida. Biswanger was held without bond and appointed a public defender the next day. She was also charged $128.28 in investigative costs.
