Florida Teacher Adrean Johnson, 39, was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail, aka the Marceno Motel, and charged with child abuse after she allegedly hit students on the buttocks with a ruler and slapped them across the face during class.
Johnson was an ESE (Exceptional Student Education) teacher at Harns Marsh Elementary School. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the school resource officer at Harns Marsh Elementary in Lehigh Acres received information regarding 39-year-old Adrean Johnson striking students, and LCSO detectives began an investigation.

Officials from the School District of Lee County removed Johnson from the classroom while detectives conducted interviews and collected evidence.
According to investigators, Johnson would slap victims across the face with her hand and strike them on the legs, back, and buttocks with a ruler.
Johnson was arrested while off campus and transported to the Lee County Jail. She faces a charge of felony child abuse. LCSO says the investigation is still active and additional charges are possible.
“We do not tolerate this kind of alleged behavior and have released the teacher involved from her probationary contract,” said SDLC Spokesman Rob Spicker.

The parents of Harns Marsh Elementary students received the following message:
“Good afternoon, families.
You are receiving this important message in compliance with Florida Statute 1012.797, Parental Notification of Arrest of Employees. I must inform you that Adrean Johnson, a Teacher at Harns Marsh Elementary School, was arrested off campus on 03/29/2023 for the following: child abuse.
Please know that The School District of Lee County and law enforcement will handle this matter most appropriately.

Some question the need for a physical arrest instead of an at-large charge with the State Attorney, while some question the actual arrest as ESE students are more challenging to teach.
