Florida Men Arrested for Setting House Fire with 21 People Inside

Ulysses and Orlando Rivera, 42 and 63, are sitting in the Lee County Jail, aka the “Marceno Motel,” after Lee County Law & Order Sheriff Carmine Marceno, after the pair set a Bonita Springs home on fire in hopes of killing the 21 people inside.

Lee County Deputies and the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District responded to a home on London Lane after receiving a 911 call about a case of arson. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victims and discovered that Ulysses Rivera was brandishing a Machete inside the home before the fire, threatening to kill everyone. He started to pour gasoline around the inside of the house, and Orlando set it on fire.

The Rivera brothers then left the residence, locking the door behind them. The victims were forced to exit the home via the windows. All 21 people made it out of the house, but four were injured while escaping the burning house.

Lee County deputies found the pair close to the residence and arrested them. Ulysses Rivera faces charges of aggravated assault, arson, and three counts of aggravated battery, and his bond was set at $1.3 Million. Orlando Rivera faces charges of arson and three counts of aggravated battery, and his bond was set at $1.25 Million.

“These two violent offenders put multiple people in danger, and they deserve to start their New Year behind bars at the Marceno Motel,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “I am proud of my deputies’ quick response to help save the victims of this fire, and I wish them a speedy recovery from this horrible situation,” said Sheriff Marceno.

I am puzzled by the charges. I think the State Attorney would start with 21 counts of attempted Murder! What say you, Sheriff Marceno? I think you need to have a talk with the State Attorney!
