Florida Man Who Went Viral for His “Wide Neck” Mugshot Arrested For Stalking – Again
Florida man Charles Dion McDowell, 35, of Pensacola is back in the Escambia County Jail charged with aggravated stalking.
McDowell gained internet fame when he was arrested in November 2018 on charges, including fleeing and eluding police, as well as drug charges relating to methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana. McDowell has an abnormally wide neck, called pterygium colli deformity, or webbed neck. Its associated with various medical disorders, most commonly Turner Syndrome.
The ensuing popularity spawned a slew of neck jokes on the internet such as:
“He’s got to be up to his neck in legal fees,” and “Y’all stop picking on that man or you’ll be necks,” and many more. His booking photo also made McDowell “internet famous.” His Instagram account “damnwideneck” boasts 1.3 million followers. McDowell even recorded rap songs under the name “Wide Neck”
According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, McDowell committed the offense of aggravated stalking back in August. Allegedly McDowell showed up at a woman’s residence and also threatened her via text message.
An arrest warrant was issued, and he was captured over the Thanksgiving weekend.

McDowell seems to have a problem staying out of trouble. About a week after his 2018 Florida arrest, he stuck his neck out again, (last neck joke, I promise), this time in Alabama. McDowell decided to flee from police during a traffic stop in Montgomery, forcing deputies to spike strip his tires.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies took McDowell into custody and charged him with attempting to elude, second-degree marijuana possession, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, and improper lane usage.
Since his earlier arrest and rise to fame, McDowell became part of the “Shrimp Gang”, a collection of online celebrities. McDowell recorded a music video with fellow neck meme internet star, “Daddy Long Neck.”
McDowell was transported to the Escambia County Jail Sunday and booked on charges of aggravated stalking and withholding child support. He is being held without bond.
