Florida Man Hits His Wife With Christmas Tree After She Asks Him to Help with Dinner

Florida man Richard Daniel Atchison, 52, of Fruitland Park, spent some time in the Lake County Sheriff’s Office after hitting his wife with the family Christmas tree.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on December 12, 2022, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Fruitland Park residence about a domestic dispute.

According to the arrest affidavit, the problem started when his wife asked Atchison to help her cook that evening’s dinner. Atchison didn’t take kindly to that request, and the argument was “On Like Donkey Kong.” At this time, his wife further enraged Mr. Atchison by allegedly dropping a spoon in the sink. According to Florida deputies, Richard Atchinson is accused of hitting his wife with a Christmas tree after she asked for help with making dinner which accidentally splashed Atchison with dirty dishwater.

As the argument continued, Atchison started to leave the house, which would have been a good idea, but no. Atchison returned and demanded that his wife leave the house instead. Atchison then blocked the door and gave her a shove for good measure.

Atchison then activated his Florida Man powers, picked up the family Christmas tree, and threw it toward the kitchen, which resulted in the tree breaking in half.  He then picked up the tree again and threw it at his wife, successfully striking her with it.

During the argument, the couple’s daughter called 911 for help, while, according to deputies, Atchison forced his wife into a corner and yelled at her until deputies arrived at the scene.

Richard Atchison was arrested by Lake County Deputies and transported to the County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges, including one count of domestic violence battery-2nd offense – a felony, one count of violation of domestic violence injunction, and one count of false imprisonment – domestic. Atchison was released the next day when he paid the $8,000 bond, and his arraignment is scheduled in court for January 9, 2022.
