The pair were caught after the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office received a complaint about 15-year-old girls being used as sex workers and initiated an investigation.

One of the sex workers told investigators that she was forced to work a minimum of three days a week, and she was paid $25 for every customer. She told them she averaged between eight and ten customers each day and would only get paid by the number of used condoms at the end of her shift.

Detectives set up an undercover operation sending fake johns into the brothel. The investigation uncovered that the mother, Barillas, and her son, Latin were the brains behind the operation. Barillas worked the door, accepted the cash for services, kept the johns running, and enforced a fifteen-minute time limit with the sex workers.

The sex worker that investigators spoke to said there was another brothel next door, but she did not know if Latin & Barillas were running that one also. Investigators believe they were.

Investigators subpoenaed the bank accounts of the pair, which showed they made regular cash deposits into their accounts but could not find any evidence they had any other employment or source of income.
