Florida Man Flees in Stolen Car, Busted by Deputies Before K-9s Get Him

Florida man Jose Gutierrez ended up in jail after a multi-county chase ended when he wrecked the vehicle he’d stolen. The Charlotte County sheriff’s office put out a BOLO for a stolen vehicle and trailer that was heading towards DeSoto County.

Apparently, Jose, like most criminals, didn’t plan the theft too well. Little did he know that he was being observed by the Charlotte County Aviation unit. That’s right, Deputies were being guided to Jose’s position by helicopter. If that wasn’t bad enough, no less than three K-9 units were heading towards him.

A DeSoto County deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Jose fled. A short while later, Jose crashed into a fence line on SW Dishong Road and bailed out, running into a wooded area.

Jose’s luck was getting worse because by the minute. Now DeSoto County Deputy Corporal Bierman with K9 Lucy, and Charlotte County Deputy Wedgwood with his partner K9 Bonzai were headed their way,” in addition the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division along with Detective Friend and K-9 Kita was also headed to assist,” DCSO added.

Folks, let me tell you that you are having one bad day when you have three K-9’s hunting you down. K9 handlers are in fierce competition with each other to see who can get the first bite! Did I mention it was pouring down raining also. The K9’s started their track and were able to stay on Jose’s trail even with the rain.

In the first stroke of luck Jose had, he made it out the other end of the woods just barely ahead of the K-9 units where a DeSoto County Sheriff welcoming committee arrested him. Pro tip Jose, while going to jail sucks, going there after getting bit sucks even more.

Jose was charged with grand theft, fleeing and eluding, and resisting without violence in Charlotte and DeSoto Counties.
