Florida Man Drinks Cup of Bleach in Courtroom After Jury Finds Him Guilty

Florida man Jermaine Lamont Bell is in the Miami-Dade County Jail after a trip to the hospital after he drank a cup of bleach in a Miami-Dade County courtroom after hearing the verdict on the armed robbery charges against him.

Bell has been in custody for more than three years fighting charges from 2018 when he posed as a courier and pulled a gun on factory employees. Bell is also charged with more than just armed robbery. According to the Miami-Dade County Jail website, Bell is also charged with carjacking, kidnapping, and aggravated battery on a person 65 or older.

In this case, the verdict had been read and Jermaine Bell has just been convicted of the charges. He then became so sick that he had to be removed from the courtroom on a stretcher and transported to the hospital.

Bell survived, but now the family wants answers as to how he was able to obtain a cup of bleach and drink it in open court. I’m kind of curious about that also. When inmates are taken to court, they are usually searched upon entering the courthouse. I am finding it hard to believe corrections or law enforcement allowed this to happen, and someone else smuggled the bleach into the courtroom. I’m sure that Investigators from police and corrections are going through video to determine how the bleach got in the courtroom.

The Reverend Jerome Starling is a distant relative of Bell and believes there needs to be accountability.

“I see him drinking something that’s not right,” said Starling. “His attorneys are letting him drink it. Corrections letting him drink it. All of a sudden, I see him collapse. And I said how could this happen.”

Bell’s cousin recorded the video of what happened. She couldn’t believe what was she was seeing.

The matter is under investigation by Miami-Dade County Corrections and Miami-Dade police.
