Florida Man Charged with Attempted Robbery of Pensacola Convenience Store

Florida Man Rakim Stephen Tate, 32, is in the Escambia County jail after a robbery attempt went wrong in Pensacola.

Tate is seen on security camera footage entering the Texas Food Mart in the 4000 block of North Pace Blvd in Pensacola with a top of the line Benelli shotgun tucked in by his side. Tate doesn’t see anyone behind the counter, so he looks around a little bit while waiting on the store clerk. The clerk comes out from the store office after a few moments and, much to Tate’s surprise is also armed with a gun!

Tate didn’t know that the clerk watched Tate arming himself outside the store and, not wanting to be a victim, went to the office and got his own pistol. Upon seeing the clerk’s pistol pointing in his direction, the standoff began. Tate tried to play it cool and started babbling a bunch of nonsense about being from Chicago.

“I don’t mean no harm, I’m just not from around here,” Tate says to the clerk while holding the shotgun. “I got a big a** m************ gun, but I’m not from around here, is what I’m saying. I’m from Chicago, bro.”

Apparently, people from Chicago always walk around toting a shotgun around when they’re trying to meet people.

Tate then makes a little small talk with the clerk acknowledging the clerk’s pistol and even asking what kind it is. It seems that when Tate was met with deadly force, he decided today wasn’t the day for a robbery and slowly left the store.

Rakim Stephen Tate was arrested a few days later in nearby Santa Rosa County on an Out-of-County Warrant. The next day he was transferred to the Escambia County jail, where he was charged with Attempted Armed Robbery as well as openly Carrying a Prohibited Weapon and held on a $101,000 bond.
