Florida Kidnapper Caught Hiding Under Trash and Clothes by K-9

Florida man David Hallaman, 31, of Mims is sitting in the Brevard County jail recovering from a dog bite to his left arm after he tried to hide from a sheriff’s K-9.

Hallaman was wanted for several domestic violence related charges out of Massachusetts, the most serious of them being three felonies for false imprisonment, battery by strangulation, and kidnapping.

Hallaman was found hiding under a pile of clothes and trash in a laundry room, and instead of going to jail quietly and peacefully he thought he could avoid capture and hide from the law. Brevard Sheriff’s Deputy Corporal Behringer unleashed his fur missile “Gator” who sniffed out Hallaman and gave him a present to take with him to the jail.

Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey recounted the story of David Hallaman’s capture:

“We will send a dog in to take a bite out of crime and that’s what Corporal Lance Behringer did when he unleashed K-9 Gator and showed Mr. Hallaman what happens when you play hide and seek with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office,” Ivey stated. “Gator don’t play that and decided that one of Hallaman’s triceps would probably taste a little bit like chicken. After his little encounter with K-9 Gator Mr. Tough Guy, you know, Mr. Hallaman, was crying like a little baby and quickly gave up.”

Hallaman was taken to the emergency room for stitches before being transported to the Brevard County Jail. He has been charged with two misdemeanors, and three felonies including false imprisonment-domestic violence, kidnapping-domestic violence, criminal mischief, battery – domestic violence and felony battery domestic by strangulation in Massachusetts.

Bond was initially set at $36,500 for the charges, but then Hallaman’s bond was changed to none as he awaits extradition to Massachusetts first before answering to the charges.
