Lee County deputies responded to a home on Caisson Lane in Fort Myers for a report of a stolen dog named “Lady.” Upon arrival, they met with the family, who stated in a sworn written statement that they fired their longtime nanny Eileen Schultz, and believed she stole their dog in retaliation.

Lee County deputies tracked down Schultz at a local hotel and questioned her about Lady. Schultz initially stated she did not take the dog but later recanted after hotel staff told deputies they saw Schultz walking around the property with a dog.

Schultz then confessed to taking the dog and told the deputies that she had a change of heart and wanted to return Lady to the family.

Although Schultz said she wanted to return the dog, instead of returning the dog, Schultz drove to the area of Caisson Lane and Penzance Boulevard and abandoned the dog there on the side of the road.

Investigators searched the area overnight for Lady without luck. The following day, deputies found Lady at a home in the Danforth Lakes Community. The Sheriff’s office said that a community resident found the dog late that evening and took her in for the night.

Deputies reunited Lady with her family, who were very thankful for the deputies’ hard work searching for their dog.

“I am disgusted by this woman’s actions to steal an innocent dog and drop the dog on the side of the road,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said.

“Because of the dedication of my deputies and detectives, we were able to locate the dog, Lady, and reunite her with her family.

Schultz was arrested on a grand theft charge and transported to the Lee County Jail. Her bond was set at $5,000, and she was released after posting said bond.
