Face Munching Murderer Goes On Trial

Face munching, double murder trial of Austin Harrouff, now 26, begins this week. On August 15, 2016, Harrouff murdered John Stevens, 59, and his wife, Michelle Mishcon, 53, who he picked randomly, while they were in their garage of their Tequesta Village residence in Palm Beach County.

Harrouff who was 19 at the time and attending Florida State University, murdered the couple by beating and stabbing them to death. After the murder, Harrouff decided to chew on Stevens face a little bit. A 25 year old neighbor who tried to help the couple was stabbed by Harrouff during the attack also. When police arrived, they found Harrouff almost naked, chewing on Stevens face. It took a few officers a police dog and a stun gun to get Harrouff subdued.

Harrouff goes on trial six years after the murders, and he has waived his right to a jury trial. Now his fate will be decided by only one man, Judge Sherwood Bauer. Harrouff has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and his future will be decided by the judge. If Harrouff’s insanity plea is accepted, he will be committed to a psychiatric hospital until he deemed to no longer be a danger. If not, he will spend the rest of his life in one of Florida’s beautiful state prisons.

In October 2017, more than a year after the crimes, he did an interview via Skype, two days before he was released from a hospital and arrested. Harrouff told Dr. Phil that he does not deserve the death penalty and that he’s been running from a demon named Daniel.

“I feel terrible, I really don’t have words to explain how I feel,” the killer said on the show. “It’s like a nightmare. I never imagined that this would ever happen. I am deeply sorry to the family that was affected. I hope that something like this never happens again.”

Harrouff’s attorneys will have to demonstrate that Harrouff had a major mental breakdown that rendered him unable to understand his actions or perceive that they were wrong.
