‘Enemy of the People’: Americans See Media as Untrustworthy With a Left-Wing Bias
A new Rasmussen Reports survey reveals that most Americans believe the media favors Democrats and is “truly the enemy of the people.”
The survey, conducted May 16-18, 2023, polled 1,002 U.S. likely voters. Questions asked included, “Do you trust the political news you are getting?” “Does news media coverage of politics generally favor Democrats or Republicans? Or is political coverage in the news media mostly neutral and balanced?” and “Do you agree or disagree with this statement: The media are “truly the enemy of the people”?”
Answers revealed a measly 30% of Americans trusted the media, with 52% voicing their outright distrust. The remaining 19% claimed to be unsure.
And while the trend is strongest among moderates and conservatives, Rasmussen reports Democrat’s faith in the media is down as well, dropping 11 points since August, with distrust jumping by five percent.

Results revealed that approval of Biden was a more reliable metric for approval of the media, with 67% of those strongly approving Biden answering they trust the media. That number gradually drops with decreasing faith in the President, with disapprovers only showing trust in political news at 10% to 20%.
“This is an absolutely mind-blowing damnation of the regime press, Head pollster Mike Mitchell surmised.

“Voters tell us the news favors Democrats over Republicans BY A 32% MARGIN. Among independents, it is 36%. That’s pretty overt.” Rasmussen later tweeted.

The survey also asked respondents if the media was an “enemy of the people,” a phrase that landed Trump in hot water during his presidency. The results found that the majority agreed with the characterization on average, especially among Republicans and moderates. Democrats fell short of a majority but not by much, with 44% agreeing or somewhat agreeing.

“Once again demonstrating that the core Democrat base consists of people who uncritically believe what authority figures tell them, and the core Republican base consists of people who do not. And now the core Democrat base is, fortunately, shrinking.”
