Emergency Appendectomy for Florida Rep. Spencer Roach

Representative Spencer Roach, a friend now serving his third term in the Florida House, can’t catch a break.

Rep Roach, who represents North Fort Myers, was left with just the clothes on his back when Hurricane Ian destroyed his home.

A few months later, he goes to Tallahassee for the governor’s inauguration and committee week, suffers an acute abdominal attack, and is rushed to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy.

What started as a little bit of abdominal pain during his flight to Tallahassee turned into an ambulance rushing to take him to the emergency room.

The good news is that Rep Roach is doing just fine. I sent him a message, assuming he wouldn’t be able to respond, but he did.

“Out of surgery. It seems like everything went as planned. It still hurts like an SOB. I’m alive. Groggy but coming out of it. Yesterday was quite a day. It was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. The pain was what I imagined going into labor must feel like. It was excruciating.” -Rep. Roach

Rep Roach has a way with words which he attributes to his love of reading. During the pandemic, he started a blog about books he was reading. I hope he continues it.

During our messages, I joked with him a little bit and apologized for making him laugh. I know it has to hurt right now. To that, he said:

“Laughing does hurt, but it truly is the best medicine.”

We couldn’t agree with you more, Rep. Here’s wishing you a quick recovery. Get well soon.
