Elon Musk Considers $22B Defamation Suit Against ADL – ‘Oh The Irony!’

Elon Musk announced Monday that he is considering a lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League for ‘$22 billion’ for falsely accusing him and his social media platform X of promoting anti-semitism. In a series of posts, Musk accused the group of betraying its original mission and pressuring advertisers to destroy his website. The tech CEO called and said it was ironic that he might have to sue the ADL for defamation.

“To clear our platform’s name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!”

In a thread, Musk threw out multiple estimates for the total damage the ADL had done to X over the past year, ranging from $4 billion to $22 billion. In May, Fidelity reported that the platform’s value had shrunk from $45 billion to $15 billion since Musk’s acquisition in October.

Musk has since openly feuded with the ADL, accusing them of playing a role in the company’s profit loss.

“Since the acquisition, The [ADL] has been trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic,” Musk wrote.

“Our US advertising revenue is still down 60%, primarily due to pressure on advertisers by [ADL] (that’s what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter!”

In response to a commenter, Musk explained how the ADL has tried to hurt X by making “unfounded accusations.”

“Advertisers avoid controversy, so all that is needed for ADL to crush our US & European ad revenue is to make unfounded accusations. They have much less power in Asia, so our ad revenue there is still strong. This ‘controversy’ causes advertisers to ‘pause’, but that pause is permanent until ADL gives the green light, which they will not do without us agreeing to secretly suspend or shadowban any account they don’t like. That is the relationship they’ve had with X/Twitter for many years.”

Musk also insinuated that the ADL had run similar pressure campaigns against other social media sites.

“Presumably, they have that with all western search or social media orgs.”

“If this continues, we will have no choice but to file a defamation suit against, ironically, the ‘Anti-Defamation’ League,” Musk continued. He added that if the ADL were to lose the suit, he would “insist that they drop the the ‘anti’ part of their name, since obviously,”

In an exchange with Jewish conservative influencer and LibsOfTikTok owner Chaya Raichik, Musk also suggested the possibility of a “giant data dump” to “clear the air” on the ADL’s role in internet censorship. According to Musk, Raichik was previously a target of the ADL, which tried to pressure X into censoring her account.

“ADL has pushed hard for us to shut down accounts like Chaya’s,” Musk wrote. “Even though it has nothing to do with anti-Semitism, which is their supposed charter!”
