‘Election Interference’ Trump Reacts to Leaked Audio of Classified Documents Discussion

Former President and 2024 Presidential candidate Donald Trump responded to tapes leaked to CNN of him discussing classified documents in his possession at a 2021 meeting in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Trump maintained his innocence when charged with 31 violations of the Espionage Act for ‘willful retention’ of classified records and six other counts, including obstruction of justice and making false statements.

During an interview with Fox News Digital, Trump said that the release of the tapes was ‘election interference,’ something he’s said about his indictments in this case and an unrelated case in Manhattan.

“I would say election interference more than anything else. It’s a disgrace that they can do it,” Trump said. “Everything was fine. We did nothing wrong, and everybody knows it.”

Trump echoed those claims in a Truth Social post after the tape was released last night.

Trump stood by previous statements that the documents contained at Mar-a-Lago were mostly ‘newspaper articles’ and in line with what is permitted under the law.

“I said it very clearly – I had a whole desk full of lots of papers, mostly newspaper articles, copies of magazines, copies of different plans, copies of stories, having to do with many, many subjects, and what was said was absolutely fine. … We did nothing wrong. This is a whole hoax.”

People are already calling the recording a ‘nothing burger’ and have said that the tapes show General Mark Milley may have lied about Trump’s alleged plan to attack Iran.

One Twitter user indicated that the tapes show that Milley wanted to invade Iran and that Trump resisted plans to do so.

Milley initially claimed that Trump wanted to attack Iran in the final days of his Presidency and that he attempted to dissuade Trump from carrying out the attack, while the recording released last night paints a different picture.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said that the tape if leaked by the Department of Justice, should ‘end’ the pending trial against Trump due to ‘prosecutorial abuse’.

Trump said he was not concerned about the tape or other future tapes that may be leaked during his interview with Fox Digital.

“I don’t know of any recordings that we should be concerned with because I don’t do things wrong. I do things right. I’m a legitimate person.”

Trump also reminded voters of a series of looming scandals concerning the Biden family, saying that he is “Not like Biden, that gets hundreds of millions of dollars from people and countries.”

Other people expressed frustration with the double standard between Trump and Biden’s treatment by the Department of Justice regarding withholding classified information.

FOX News Kayleigh McEnany pointed out that Biden took classified documents as a US Senator when he had no authority to do so and never faced prosecution by the Department of Justice.

For his part, Trump brushed off the tape, saying that he does things’ right’ and is not worried about it.

“We do things right, so I don’t care about any recordings,” Trump concluded.
