‘Disgusting Statement’ – Pence Blames DeSantis, Trump for Israel Attack

While Israel continues to reel from an unprecedented assault by Hamas over the weekend, Presidential hopeful Mike Pence is taking the opportunity to score political points against his primary opponents. The death toll is rapidly approaching 1,000, and Israeli officials say that American citizens were among the hostages taken by Palestinian terrorists. In response, Pence appeared on CNN and blamed Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

“I want to focus sort of on this strain here. I want to focus on what you had to say about some of your fellow Republicans,” host Dana Bash told the former Vice President during a Saturday edition of ‘State of the Union.’

“You said that this is what happens when leaders in the Republican Party signal Americans’ retreat as leaders of the free world. Weakness arouses evil. Are you talking about your former running mate?”

Pence began by criticizing the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and the $6 billion ransom recently paid to Iran and accused the White House of setting the “conditions” to allow for the attack. His focus quickly shifted to his Republican rivals, however, and he told the CNN host that the three primary frontrunners also share in the blame.

“I also believe this is what happens when we have leading voices like Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis signaling retreat from America’s role as leader of the free world.”

Trump, DeSantis, and Ramaswamy have stood out as critics of American interventionism overseas. Trump has repeatedly called for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine, while DeSantis has often criticized the Biden administration’s “blank check” approach. Pence, by contrast, has called for additional aid and has suggested it may be necessary to deploy the U.S. military to fight Russia.

“What happened in Ukraine was an unprovoked invasion by Russia. What happened this weekend was an unprovoked invasion by Hamas into Israel,” Pence continued.

“And I believe now more than ever, both the debate within the Republican Party and the debate within America is whether or not we’re going to once again stand without apology as the leader of the free world, as the arsenal of democracy.”

Despite repeated calls from the GOP field to support Israel against Hamas, Pence urged his primary opponents “to abandon the language of appeasement.”

Pence’s comments were widely panned after he posted a video of the CNN interview to his social media.

“What a joke. No, this is what happens when weak, stupid, arrogant, dishonest Joe Biden is pretending to lead the free world,” New York Post writer Miranda Devine commented.

“Really dumb take from the VP of the Abraham Accords,” replied radio host Dana Loesch. “So if you oppose the mystery finance of Ukraine, then you support Hamas? Pence is over here trying to out-Biden Biden.”

Even Donald Trump Jr. joined in, blasting his father’s former running mate,

“You’re the embodiment of the kind of weakness that led to this. You should have paid attention when you were groveling at the feet of the master. Trump brought peace because the world knew — F around and find out! We’ll never return to the failed approach of you and your uniparty fools.”
