DeSantis: ‘Why Are You Even in This Country?’ – Blasts Pro-Hamas Rallies

The recent spate of pro-Hamas demonstrations around the country indicates a “sickness in our society,” according to Governor Ron DeSantis. In an interview with Newsmax on Wednesday, DeSantis called out protesters for celebrating the terrorist attacks on Israel, which has left more than 1,200 dead.

The demonstrators include members of Black Lives Matter, the Democratic Socialists of America, and a variety of student groups nationwide. The Florida Governor described the rallies as “almost like they’re just pouring salt in the wounds by going out there and celebrating the atrocities.”

“These demonstrations in like New York City where they’re cheering Hamas, knowing that Hamas has decapitated babies, they’re executing elderly people, raping women. This is obviously an atrocious terrorist attack, but I think that they scraped the bottom of the barrel of human depravity on this and to take to the streets and celebrate that.” DeSantis said on ‘Rob Schmitt Tonight.’

DeSantis continued,

“There’s a sickness in our society when you have Harvard students signing these letters praising Hamas. And I just wonder, it’s like, why are you even in this country if that’s your belief on some of that stuff?”

DeSantis also discussed Florida’s role in supporting Israel. He told host Rob Schmitt that Iran needed to be held accountable for funding terrorism and for likely playing a part in the recent attacks.

“My view is the more money that goes into that country, that regime takes it. They’re not going to help their own people. They’re going to send it to Hamas and Hezbollah and foment jihad throughout the Middle East, so we’ve got to do our part to shut off the spigot as much as we can,”

On Tuesday, DeSantis proposed sweeping new sanctions and called on the state legislature to block Iranian business in the state.

“Our proposed legislation will, of course, reinforce Florida’s commitment that we don’t do business with state sponsors of terrorism, such as Iran,” DeSantis said. “It’s going to expand the prohibition on state investment in Iranian businesses to include the financial, construction, manufacturing, textile, technology, mining, metals, shipping, shipbuilding, and port sectors.”

“What they use it for is to fund terrorism throughout the Middle East and throughout the world,” DeSantis said Tuesday at an event at The Shul of Bal Harbour synagogue in Surfside.

“They send the money to Hezbollah, they send the money to Hamas, and that’s exactly what we’ve seen,” DeSantis continued. “And yes, Iran was involved in orchestrating this attack against Israel. We know that, it’s been reported. They deny it, but we’re smarter than that.”

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, DeSantis reaffirmed that the attacks against Israel were “personal.”

“This is personal for us here in Florida,” DeSantis said. “We have the second largest Israeli-American population in the country. We’ve been a magnet, since I’ve been governor, for Orthodox Jews.”
